Twinkle, twinkle little butterfly

Day 3 – Use a nursery rhyme or other children’s song as your source material today.

I was all about the stars growing up, From Twinkle to Star Light, Star Bright, I wished and sang and wished some more. I don’t remember exactly what I wished for, but I remember looking up at the stars and I still look up every chance I get.

In the palm of my hand

day-1-hand-v3

Day 1 – Make something that fits in the palm of your hand using only the materials in your immediate environment.

So, just in case you don;t know. I’m rejoining the CreativeSprint community for the month of October. Our goal, to do something creative every day for thirty days.

I’ve chosen Photoshop as my medium and butterflies as my theme. Here is the Day 1 result and my first two attempts. (They were too cool not to share.)

Thank you CreativeSprint

glory wall_web 2

This was a wonderful experience for me. So much so, that I can’t wait for the fall to try it again. Hopefully by then, I’ll have enough rudimentary skills and photographic archives to use Photoshop as my medium.

So here goes my list of lessons learned:

  1. Sometimes the first idea is the best one.
  2. It doesn’t need to be perfect
  3. Mistakes happen
  4. Art supplies are everywhere
  5. Trying new things, inspires new things

I wasn’t able to complete every challenge due to work and social obligations, But, I still accomplished enough to make this bitchin’ wall of butterflies.

CreativeSprint – Day 14: Create something inspired by an email, text or other message that you receive today.

I get a daily newsletter from Today called “Stuff We Love,” and in today’s Today email I found this article about a t-shirt for travelers. It’s covered with icons and all you have to do is point to the image representing what you want. Genius or lazy, I can’t decide. Maybe lazy genius?

But, it did inspire me to create the butterfly version…

Maybe I’ll print it on a t-shirt one day…

CreativeSprint – Day 18: Break something and make something new with the parts.

I decided to break some hard candies a la Candy Crush with my trusty hammer. I wanted this to be something I could keep, so I glued the candy to a piece of cardboard…

I didn’t count on the candy dissolving into the glue. Live and learn.

It looks kinda like a map of the United States, a sticky sweet, ooy-gooey map.

Butterfly chain

CreativeSprint – Day 25: Teach us how to do something.

REFLECTION:

What was your favorite day of CreativeSprint so far and why?

How to make a butterfly paper chain, step by step.

Step 1 – Choose a piece of paper and fold it, accordion-style. (Hint: Be sure to make the folds even and four layers max. The paper pictured is 4 1/4 inches by 11 inches and folded into quarters)

Step 2 – Press all layers flat, draw the image you want on the top layer. (Hint: Be vigilant of your folded edges. This is how the paper chain stays connected, so don’t cut completely through your folds.)

Step 3 – Cut out your design (Don’t cut through those folds!). You can also cut out shapes within your image, like making snowflakes in grade school. My design was too ambitious for the tools I had available. Specialty scissors or Exacto knives will allow for more detail.

Step 4 – Unfold and enjoy! You can leave the paper plain white or decorate it.

In reflection, my favorite CreativeSprint day was Cat-terfly for the simple reason that I had fun. It didn’t feel like work to create this and the idea came to me easily.
